MERRITT ISLAND — A Brevard County business is about to celebrate a quarter century in existence, and all of its success is drawn from “out of this world” items.
Space Shirts is just as the name implies — a print shop of T-shirts detailing the space program’s history, especially the shuttle program, which is set to retire next year.
Owner Brenda Mulberry said she started mass producing the STS shirts after the Challenger disaster in 1986, beginning with STS-26, the return to flight mission.
Mulberry believes each is a collector’s item and inspiration, detailing America’s goal of heading to space.
“I hope that President Obama sees that we have to inspire third and fourth graders to stay into math and science and continue to explore,” Mulberry said.
Mulberry said astronauts, members of NASA and many other space program figures have stopped by her store over the last 25 years.
The birthday celebration is Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. off Highway 3 just south of the Kennedy Space Center.
